Canvas I Paint On was developed over seven years and self-published in Berlin. The publication brings together Mad’s artworks, sketches and personal archives alongside diary entries written from childhood through the end of the Berlin period.

Moving between visual and written narratives, the book traces themes of loss, grief and the search for what remains after transformation. Reproductions of artworks are interwoven with original printed material, creating a layered record of emotional and symbolic foundations from which the entire body of work emerged.

Produced entirely by the artist in an edition of 10, each copy was printed, assembled, numbered and signed by hand. Combining linoleum, silkscreen, typewriter text and digital printing techniques, Canvas I Paint On is both an artist publication and an intimate artwork of a formative chapter in Zoé Mad’s artistic practice.
