Mad Tarot is a series of fifteen oil paintings that function as a game of intuition and symbolic association. Each canvas holds a single image, pattern or phrase that acts like a card: a fragment of a larger visual language through which relationships, belonging, ancestry and transformation are read. The cards operate individually, but when placed together they become a constellation: part diary, part research, part ritual and a map of the symbolic universe that continues to reappear throughout Zoé Mad’s larger works.
UNUMA, formed by two human figures, speaks about connection and the invisible space created between people.
BIRD FEET draw from Lithuanian mythology, while the LIFE JUICE vessel carries associations with fertility and nourishment.
A DOUBLE HOUSE reflects intimacy, partnership and the question of where home begins.
Repeating human figures become THE TRIBE and collective belonging; three stitched figures become FAMILY.
Other cards are built from more abstract languages: SCALES recall the body of a mermaid and the movement of water.
TEARDROPS become both emotion and element.
Counting STICKS register different dimensions of lived experience.
ENDLESS GAME speaks to the continual construction of reality – the choices, repetitions, coincidences and patterns through which life keeps reorganising itself.
